About
The Global Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies invites you to explore the philosophical underpinnings of modern thought, its entanglement with colonial histories, and its impact on societies across the globe. Our courses traverse philosophy, politics, technology and culture, and are led by scholars working in those fields. The curriculum is a demanding one, and it is meant to be: it seeks not simply to impart knowledge but to provoke critical thinking and meaningful dialogue.
Our story
The Global Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (GIIS) is a newly established educational platform, conceived with the aim of fostering an inclusive academic environment that reaches past traditional boundaries. It was founded by Prabhsharanbir Singh, a scholar and professor at the University of the Fraser Valley, to offer rigorous, thought-provoking courses that challenge conventional wisdom.
Our founder
Prabhsharanbir Singh holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of British Columbia. His work spans South Asian Studies, postcolonialism, psychoanalysis, continental philosophy and the philosophy of technology. That range, and a long commitment to intellectual exploration, shapes what GIIS sets out to do.
Our vision
We envision a form of education that breaks free of traditional silos and encourages learners to trace connections across diverse fields. Our aim is to nurture critical thinkers capable of addressing the complex questions of the modern world from more than one discipline at a time.
Our mission
Our mission is to connect students from a wide range of backgrounds with leading experts, researchers and educators in interdisciplinary studies. We aspire to build a platform that not only imparts knowledge but sustains an academic community committed to intellectual curiosity and continuous learning.
Our future
We are proud of our beginnings and more interested still in what follows. Our longer-term goal is to widen the range of subjects we teach, and to keep a direct link between dedicated educators and the people who want to learn from them.
